The NFL has tweaked its playoff overtime rules multiple times, most recently in 2022.
The rule was established in March 2022 after an instant classic between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
The structure is similar to the regular season, but both sides can hold the ball and games cannot result in ties.
following regulation, the visiting team captain calls a midfield coin toss like at the start of games following a three-minute halftime.
If the first team scores a touchdown, the game continues and the second team gets the ball.
If the game is still tied after the first overtime period or if the second team's initial possession has not ended, the teams will play another.
However many overtime sessions are needed, play will continue until a winner is found.
There will be a two-minute break between overtime periods, but not after the second.
